Lockdown
2021 moved slowly, the way the whole pandemic did. I taught two courses inside that slowness. Explain with GIFs had students use animation to make complex algorithms legible to people outside the field. Sketch, Crit, and Remix asked them to step back from their own narrow inquiries and think about how you investigate digital technology at all.
The quiet upside of a slow year was time. I finally had enough of it to structure and plan Mathscapes properly, the long-term project I keep returning to. Not much happened in 2021, and I made my peace with that by treating it as preparation, a chance to reorient toward what I actually wanted next.
